Kathryn Tickell Band ***SOLD OUT***
(Lichfield Guildhall) Friday 7th May

8.30pm
Tickets: £16/£15 concs/£14 members/£8 students

The most widely acknowledged icon of Northumbrian music joins forces with some of the UK’s most talented young musicians to present a band full of excitement and vitality.

The Kathryn Tickell Band features Amy Thatcher on accordion and providing clog dance, Joss Clapp on acoustic bass and vocals, and younger brother Peter Tickell on fiddle. This distinctive quartet provides a characterful setting for Kathryn’s music, matching virtuosity with sheer musicality and creativity. The choice of instruments is inspired; whether it’s the interweaving melodies and driving sound of twin fiddles, the distinctive pairing of pipes and melodeon, or the excitement of the full band, with guitar and acoustic bass guitar adding depth and rhythmic complexity.

The concert features Kathryn’s own compositions, some from Peter Tickell, and the strange but beautiful tunes of Julian Sutton. As always, the traditional tunes of Northumberland and the Borders are well represented, with emotive airs and captivating tunes linked by Kathryn’s inimitable introductions. The Kathryn Tickell Band’s compelling performances have justifiably earned worldwide acclaim.

Empirical
(Lichfield Guildhall) Friday 14th May

8.30pm
Tickets: £13/£12 concs/£11 members/£6 students

Hip, bold and definitely young this band have been described by Courtney Pine as: "the most exciting jazz band to come out of the UK."

They are: Nathaniel Facey (alto sax); Lewis Wright (vibes); Tom Farmer (double bass); Shaney Forbes (drums/percussion)

Despite their young years they perform with astonishing musical maturity, confidence and cohesiveness. Although they all share the influences of past masters from Louis Armstrong, Fats Navarro, Clifford Brown to Miles Davies their music maintains the roots of modern jazz but has a definite finger on the pulse of the contemporary world.

Imagine a stage full of folkies dancing around consisting of all sections of an orchestra and more. Recorders, strings, woodwind, brass, percussion, accordians and guitars playing British and European folk with incredible spirit and energy.

Simply brilliant!

Lichfield Wildfire Folk
Lichfield Arts have created this young, vibrant, group of very talented musicians with the help of the secondary schools of the Friary and King Edward VI, Lichfield and John Taylor School, Barton-under-Needwood. They have been rehearsing under the considerable talent of Joe Broughton (Albion Band) and his team from the Birmingham Conservatoire. Like the famous Birmingham Conservatoire Folk Ensemble, they have created a band of incredible energy and vitality, playing their interpretations of Folk Music with consummate skill from musicians who are so young.
